1. Who we are
TypeNets (“we”, “us”) is a free typing tutor, typing-speed test and multiplayer typing-race website at typenets.pages.dev. For any privacy question or request, write to your-email@typenets.pages.dev.
2. The short version
- You do not need an account to practise, take typing tests or race. Signing in with Google is optional and only needed for a leaderboard profile.
- Your practice progress and settings stay in your own browser.
- If you sign in, we receive your Google name, email address and profile photo to create your profile. Your name, username, picture and best score are public on the leaderboard. Your email address is never shown to other people.
- You can edit your name, username and picture, or delete your account, at any time.
- We do not run ads, we do not sell your data, and we do not use advertising or analytics trackers.
- We never send the text you type to our servers; only summary numbers (such as speed and accuracy) are sent when you use the leaderboard or a race.
3. Data stored only in your browser
To work without an account, TypeNets saves the following in your browser’s local storage. It is not sent to us and does not leave your device:
- Practice settings (for example capital letters, punctuation, word count, target speed and accuracy, sound and keyboard options).
- Typing history, per-key statistics, which letters you have unlocked, lesson progress, custom lessons, and daily-goal progress.
- Your personal best typing-test and multiplayer results on this device.
- If you are signed in: the sign-in session kept by Supabase (so you are not asked to sign in every visit) and a cached copy of your profile card (name, username, picture address). Also a temporary guest name for races when you are not signed in, and the ID of a race you are currently in.
Because this data lives in your browser, clearing your site data or using a different browser or device removes or hides it. Clearing site data also signs you out; sign in with Google again and your profile and score are still there. TypeNets does not set its own cookies; the services listed below may keep a sign-in token in your browser’s storage.
4. Data stored on our servers
4.1 Google sign-in, profile and leaderboard (Supabase)
If you choose Sign in with Google, Google confirms your identity to us through Supabase (a hosted authentication and database service). We never receive your Google password. We receive and store:
- Your Google account’s email address, name and profile photo address, kept in the sign-in record. The email is used only to identify your account and to create your first username (the part before the “@”); it is not shown to other people.
- Your profile: display name, username, and either a character avatar number, your Google photo address, or a picture you upload (stored in Supabase Storage, resized to a small square).
- The dates you created or changed your profile and a record of each username change (used to enforce the limit of two username changes per calendar month).
- If you finish a qualifying typing test: your display name, username, picture, words per minute, accuracy, test length and the date of your personal best only.
By default your name and photo are copied from your Google account and your username is generated from your email name; you can change all three in your profile. Your name, username, picture and best score are shown publicly on the all-time leaderboard. Because a generated username may resemble your email name, please change it if you do not want that. Do not upload pictures of other people or anything you do not have the right to share.
You stay signed in on that browser until you sign out. You can delete your account in the profile editor: this removes your profile, uploaded picture, leaderboard score and sign-in record from our database.
4.2 Multiplayer races (Google Firebase)
Races use Firebase Realtime Database and Firebase Authentication (anonymous sign-in), both provided by Google. When you join a race, a temporary anonymous ID and the following are written to the race room so other racers can see them: your username (or a temporary guest name if you are not signed in), a character avatar, progress, speed, accuracy, error count, number of characters typed, join time and finish time. Race rooms are temporary and are designed to be removed once the race room is empty or closed. Other players in your race can see this information while the race is live and on the results screen.
5. What we do not collect
- No password (Google handles sign-in), and no phone number, postal address or payment information. If you never sign in, we hold no email address or name for you at all.
- No contents of what you type, no keystroke logs, no microphone, camera or precise location.
- No advertising profiles, and no third-party analytics or advertising cookies.
6. How we use data
- To run the features you use: show your profile, keep the leaderboard, and run multiplayer races.
- To enforce username rules and limits, prevent abuse, and keep the leaderboard fair (for example removing impossible or tampered scores).
- To fix problems and improve TypeNets.
7. Third-party services
TypeNets relies on these providers, who receive standard connection data (such as your IP address and browser type) when your browser loads or talks to them, and who handle data under their own privacy policies:
- Google (Sign in with Google): confirms who you are when you sign in; Google’s own privacy policy applies to your Google account. Google-hosted image servers deliver your Google profile photo if you use it.
- Supabase: sign-in, profiles, uploaded pictures and the leaderboard.
- Google Firebase (Authentication and Realtime Database): multiplayer races.
- Google Fonts: the typefaces used on the site.
- jsDelivr and Google-hosted script servers: delivery of the Supabase and Firebase code libraries.
- Our hosting provider: serves the website and may keep standard server logs (IP address, requested page, time, browser).
Your data may therefore be processed in countries other than your own.
8. How long we keep data
Data in your browser stays until you clear it. Your profile, uploaded picture and leaderboard score stay until you delete your account (or ask us to) or we remove them for abuse or long inactivity. Race-room data is temporary. Standard hosting and provider logs are kept for the periods set by those providers.
9. Your choices and rights
- Delete local data at any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser settings.
- Edit your name, username and picture whenever you like in your profile (usernames up to twice per calendar month).
- Delete your account yourself from the profile editor, or ask us to access, correct or delete your data by emailing your-email@typenets.pages.dev from the Google address you signed in with.
- Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local data-protection law (such as access, correction, erasure, objection, or complaining to a regulator). Contact us and we will help.
10. Children
TypeNets is a general-audience typing tool and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). Practising, tests and races work without signing in, so a child can use TypeNets without sharing any details. Anyone under the minimum age for a Google account in their country should not sign in without a parent or guardian. If you believe a child has put personal information into a public username, email us and we will remove it. Parents and teachers are welcome to review this policy.
11. Security
We use well-known hosted services and database rules to limit what each visitor can read and write, but no online service is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Public leaderboard and race information is visible to everyone by design.
12. Changes to this policy
If we change how TypeNets handles data, we will update this page and its “last updated” date. Significant changes will be reflected on the site before they take effect where practical.
